A Spotlight on the First Annual Horn of Africa Regional Block Summit

The COMFWB Eritrea Chapter, being the Chairperson of the COMFWB Horn of Africa (HOA) Block, hosted the inaugural annual COMFWB HOA Sub-Regional Summit in Asmara, Eritrea on July 28 2022. During the summit, the delegation met with the President of Eritrea, His Excellency, Isaias Afwerki, while the summit launch was graced by the Honorable Minister of Agriculture, Arefaine Berhe. 

The four-day summit brought together COMFWB Chapter representatives/chairpersons from Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan. Government officials, private sector stakeholders, and development partners from Eritrea and the regional block were also in attendance.  During the summit, attendees discussed HOA Sub-regional strategic priorities for economic development and trade opportunities for all citizens, with a special focus on women and youth MSMEs.

The opening was followed by the 6th bazaar organised by the COMFWB Eritrean chapter. The participants also paid a visit to the Mai-Nefhi dam where women cooperatives witnessed women fishing and collecting preparing for the market. They also went to the Hal hale National Research Centre, the seed bank, the tissue culture department and the soil analysis center. The lineup of events was concluded with a dinner organized by the COMFWB Eritrean Chapter.
