COMFWB Malawi and NABW present landmark procurement survey to the Minister of Industrialization, Business, Trade, and Tourism

Lilongwe, Malawi – In a significant move toward economic equity, the Federation of National Women in business in Malawi or COMFWB Malawi, alongside the National Association of Business Women (NABW), held a formal briefing today with the Minister of Industrialization, Business, Trade, and Tourism.

The delegation presented a comprehensive report detailing the participation of women-led businesses in public procurement. The survey identified critical bottlenecks, including limited access to information, complex bidding requirements, and gaps in the current implementation of the MSME Order of 2020.

To address these challenges, the organizations proposed a legislative update to the 2020 Order. The proposal seeks to explicitly define and reserve procurement allocations for marginalized groups, ensuring that women, youth, and persons with disabilities have a protected share of the public market.

The Minister expressed his appreciation for the data-driven approach and affirmed the Ministry's commitment to reviewing the recommendations for future policy integration.
