This significant event has drawn the participation of officials from COMESA, the 21 COMFWB Chairpersons and National Chapter teams, members of the Ethiopian Business Women Association, partners representatives, and various other stakeholders.
Over 250 participants, including women entrepreneurs, government officials, and diplomats, gathered for the opening of the 6th COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB) Trade Fair and Business Conference on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
COMESA Secretary General Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe, and COMFWB Chairperson Ms. Maureen, underscored the critical need for collaborative efforts to bolster the involvement of women and youth in trade and business, emphasizing gender equality as a cornerstone of economic progress.
Speakers at the opening ceremony recognized the significant, often understated, contribution of women as"silent engines" of the COMESA region's economy, particularly incross-border trade, while acknowledging the persistent structural barriers they encounter. The Trade Fair is positioned as a direct response to these challenges, offering a vital platform for trade, transformation, celebration, and a catalyst for meaningful change.
Women entrepreneurs hailing from all 21 COMESA member countries were present at the 6th COMFWB TradeFair and Business Conference, showcasing their diverse products at the exhibition hall within the EthiopianSkylight Hotel in Addis Ababa.
