Malawi launches COMFWB Chapter at Annual General Assembly

Malawi joined COMESA counterparts by launching the COMFWB Malawi Chapter on Friday, the 11th of March, 2022 at Ufulu Gardens, Lilongwe. The launch took place during the Annual General Assembly of the National Association of Business Women (NABW). The occasion was graced and launched by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Mark Katsonga Phiri.

Other high-level dignitaries in attendance were the Principal Secretary to the Ministry of Trade, Mrs. Christina Zakeyu, Principal Secretary to Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Development Mrs. Roselyn Makhumula, the director of SMEs in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Mr. Limbikani Chiwaya, the CEO of COMFWB Ms. Ruth Negash, and the board member of COMFWB Malawi Chapter, Ms. Towera Jalakasi

During the launch, Ms. Ruth Negash gave a captivating presentation on the following:

  • COMESA Policies and Frameworks to support women businesses,
  • 2022 COMFWB Secretariat Focus Activities,
  • 2022 Expected and future activities, and
  • the COMFWB Headquarters to be built which apart from the COMFWB Headquarters Office Building, will consist of a Women's Bank, Conferencing Facilities, 5 Star-Hotel, Shopping mall, and Residential Units

Elections were also held during Friday’s event after the launch of the COMFWB Malawi Chapter. The positions being voted were the position of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations Officer. After the function, COMFWB Women entrepreneurs displayed their various products to showcase their different talents, which were then viewed and appreciated by the Minister, Mr. Mark Katsonga Phiri, and the other attendees.
